Views of Skye and Kyle
From Glen Coe to Skye.
The Scottish landscape changes quite drastically in Glen Coe, and continues to be both breath-taking and eerily beautiful as far as the eye can see. For my wife and I, the Scottish Highlands are a place of relaxation, somewhere to unwind and recharge the batteries which have been run down from urban life and work.
The weather was not the best, but this didn’t change the aura which for us, the Highlands bring. The images in this section are taken in all types of weather. The dramatic sky only enhances the extremely dramatic and sometimes austere landscape.
Enjoy the serenity of the sun as it glistens on the waters of Loch Kishorn from the heights of ‘cows’ pass’ on the Applecross peninsular. Wonder at the distant vision of the Cuillin Hills on the Isle of Skye, as they peak mysteriously from within the misty cloud.
What is he thinking about? The wary look from the highland bull as he rests on the road side, who we named Hamish, is captured in the camera lens.
Time gone by, has been captured in the images of the abandoned light house cottages, which stand forlorn in the majesty of the lighthouse tower. This rugged peak on the far north of Skye, Neist Point, was home, on the day we visited, to a turbulent sea, with crashing waves against the rocky headland.
Images of a starry, post Aurora night, are captured looking to the north; the constellations clearly visible in these night photography shots.
A fairy tale castle, shot as the sun is setting, it walls illuminating and reflecting on the still waters of Loch Duich. An Iron Age Broch, this still has a powerful presence thousands of years on, is captured both inside and outside, offering a window of life today from a life of yesterday.
Scotland is magical, beautiful, peaceful, and for my wife – fulfilling. The hues of gold, blue and bronze are part of the Scottish Highlands and the forever present rainbows with their brilliant colours. Enjoy these images and imagine the power of nature around.
